Barclays’ group finance director, Chris Lucas, will be stepping down on 16th August having brought forward his previously announced departure from February of next year, for health reasons.

Mr Tushar Morzaria, who will be taking on Mr Lucas’ role (joining from JP Morgan Chase) will be in post by 15th October and Peter Estlin, the bank’s group financial controller, will become acting chief financial officer during the gap.

Last month, Barclays announced that it is proposing to raise £5.8 billion in a right issue to reduce its leverage exposure.
